Inspired by an article I read and a visit from two of my nieces which landed me in downtown San Diego very late into the night I took this series of the Gaslamp district and part of San Diego’s waterfront after dark. Enjoy!
Memorial Day is a very special time in our household as my husband is active duty USN, his father is retired USN and my Father served in WWII in the Army. He was declared 4F early in the war due to a childhood injury but kept at it and was finally accepted toward the end when the need was greater. I thought I would wish you all a Happy Holiday weekend by sharing some images from a recent road trip through the rural valleys and back country of Southern California from San Diego to Santa Barbara and on to Joshua Tree. Some feel retro but are real-time, some are funny and some emotional.
Enjoy and a HUGE thank you to all who serve in our Armed Forces.

Welcome to spring, without a doubt my favorite time of year!! So I know this looks like and orchid but I am here to tell you this is a macro of a wisteria blossom. Who knew those little tiny blooms were actually miniature orchids! : ) Enjoy your Easter weekend everyone, a time of rebirth and hope.
Went for a walk in Blue Sky Canyon yesterday with my Shadow and as luck would have it timed our trip perfectly to come across a Ranger led hike. Usually I would make a wide berth as I prefer my nature hikes on the quiet side and not surrounded by a gaggle of people, BUT their first discovery was a mama hummingbird manning her nest! I HAD to stop when I heard that. It took me a full five minutes of staring from a multitude of angles while the Ranger was pointing directly at the nest for me to finally see it!! That is how well mother nature works to protect her creatures. It was in the center of a tree right next to the path – yet I had to struggle to see it! Oh but it was worth it as you will see below.
Now we have many, many hummingbirds in our yard at home. They come to the feeders regularly but I have never been able to spot a nest even though I have tried many times believe me! I was informed by the Ranger to please not get close at all as the eggs will not hatch if the mother is worried or stressed. I took this with my 300mm maxed out which produced a photo a tiny bit soft. It was also very overcast and I was shooting into the center of the tree. All in all happy with my result. Her nest is so beautiful I would like my home to look just like it! If this doesn’t put a smile on your face nothing will! Limited Edition Prints available here.
Macro photography is my obsession. There is a whole new world available when you look closely enough. I love how the most ordinary becomes extraordinary and the hidden is made visible when seen larger than life. These photos were all taken around my home. Things I walk past every single day made me stop in awe when seen in a new light. Enjoy.
